FilmEar Episode 28: Thomas Little the Classical Nerd Interview

THOMAS LITTLE / The Classical Nerd

On a new episode of the FilmEar podcast, I welcome composer and YouTube educator Thomas Little – also known as The Classical Nerd. Through his YouTube videos, he tells of the lives and works of many well-known and obscure composers of classical music. In his videos, he also teaches classical composing techniques and terms while sometimes including his own music as examples (see his series writing a piece for the Eighth Blackbird ensemble). On the podcast, we talk about his life of music, from composing and performing to the state of modern concert music today, and even his short film scoring assignments. So join me and Thomas on this journey and nerd out as we discuss the many facets of composing and classical music. Oh and yes we even find time for some good old John Williams worship along the way. You can find Thomas’ videos on his YouTube channel here (or click on his image above), and find out more about him and his composing at this website lentovivace.com.

FilmEar Episode 26: Drunk Justice – An Elfman Story

Sorry about the delay but boy do I have a doozy for you! Welcome to my (your host Natrebo’s) first fully drunk interview as I got together with family and some friends to listen to Chris Kayfield tell his Danny Elfman story about the Recording Sessions of Justice League. We also talk a little about Blade Runner 2049, but it is mostly a Danny Elfman centric episode. Chris is joined by his fiancé Lauren and also there is my brother Nic (who decided to get all of this on mic) and his wife Crystal who you might remember from the Rogue One episode. You might even hear my Mom in the background from time to time.

FilmEar Episode 25: Mother Knows Best

On a very special episode I invite my Mom on the podcast, Barbara Murphy, and we chat about how her musical influences and the music she played around the house rubbed off on me – from Stravinsky and George Gershwin’s Rhapsody In Blue to musicals like South Pacific.  We also talk about her early love of instrumentals like Booker T’s Green Onions and rockers like Roy Orbison to Jazz music.  Her love of movies and movie music was also diverse, ranging from John Williams Jurassic Park to comedies like Clue and the pop filled score to Guardians of the Galaxy.  In TV, we talk Hit Parade to Colombo, The Voice to Perry Mason and everything in between.  We even talk a little recent Star Wars as well as some of her favories now, like Hamilton and Haley Reinhart – All of this with music examples, so sit back and stick it in your ear with my Mom!
